How to Delete Browsing History on Safari

Safari history can exist on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad, and iCloud can sync Safari data across Apple devices. That makes cleanup simple in some cases, but it also means you should know which device and account settings are involved.

Safari on Mac

This removes Safari history for the selected time range. It may also affect related website data depending on your Safari version and settings.

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Select History in the menu bar.
  3. Choose Clear History.
  4. Pick the time range you want to remove.
  5. Select Clear History.

Safari on iPhone and iPad

If you only want to remove specific website data, go to Settings, Safari, Advanced, Website Data. This gives you more control than clearing everything at once.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap Safari.
  3. Tap Clear History and Website Data.
  4. Confirm the cleanup.

What about iCloud sync?

If Safari is syncing through iCloud, clearing history on one Apple device may affect synced Safari history. That can be useful, but do not assume every local trace is removed everywhere. Check each device if privacy matters.

If you share an Apple ID, Safari sync can also create privacy problems. The practical fix is to use separate Apple IDs and review iCloud Safari settings.

Cookies, cache, and website data

Safari groups some cleanup controls under website data. Removing website data can clear cookies, local storage, and other site files. This may sign you out of websites and reset site preferences.

For normal maintenance, clear history first. Use website data cleanup when a site is broken, you are using a shared device, or you want a deeper privacy reset.
