How to Delete Browsing History on Firefox

Firefox gives you control over history, cookies, cache, active logins, and site settings. For a safe first cleanup, remove browsing history first and only add cookies or cache when you understand the tradeoff.

Firefox mobile instructions

Firefox on mobile stores its own history. Clearing Safari, Chrome, or Edge does not clear Firefox history.

  1. Open Firefox on iPhone or Android.
  2. Tap the menu button.
  3. Open History or Settings.
  4. Choose Clear recent history or Delete browsing data.
  5. Select Browsing history and any extra data types you want to remove.
  6. Confirm the deletion.

Firefox cookies and cache

Clearing cookies can sign you out of websites. Clearing cache can fix broken pages and free space. If your only goal is to remove local page history, leave cookies and cache unchecked at first.

Private browsing is different

Firefox Private Browsing helps keep a private session out of local history after the window closes. It does not erase normal browsing history you already saved, and it does not hide activity from websites, accounts, networks, or your internet provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does deleting history remove everything?

No. It mainly removes local browser records. It does not erase records held by websites, accounts, networks, internet providers, or other devices.

Should I clear cookies too?

Clear cookies when you want a deeper cleanup or need to remove site sessions. Expect to be signed out of many websites.

Can I undo deleted browsing history?

Usually no. Some synced account or device backups may still contain activity, but you should treat browser cleanup as hard to reverse.
